Title: Introduction to Smooth Manifolds

We will continue with the discussion on (co)tangent space and smooth maps. We will define what is the differential of a smooth map and state the implicit function theorem. We will also work out some concrete examples.

Venue: Seminar Hall, Mathematics Department
Speaker: Ritwik Mukherjee, NISER
Title: Introduction to Smooth Manifolds

We will give more examples of differentiable manifolds and define what it means to be a smooth function between two manifolds. If time permits, we may define what is the (co)tangent space of a manifold at a given point.

Title: Some results in the topology of real algebraic varieties

The topology of real algebraic varieties is the study of the topology of objects that can be defined real algebraically, particularly the restrictions that the real algebraic structure imposes on the topology. The main problem that motivated interest in this area is the so called Hilbert's...

Title: Introduction to Smooth Manifolds

This is a planned series of informal lectures, where we develop the theory of smooth manifolds. We will start from scratch keeping prerequisites to a bare minimum.

Title: Pseudo-Differential Operators on Heisenberg Groups

The theory of pseudo-differential operators has provided a very powerful and flexible tool for treating certain problems in linear partial differential equations. The importance of the Heisenberg group in general harmonic analysis and problems involving partial differential operators on...

Title: Racks and Knots

A rack is a set with a binary operation that satisfies properties similar to the conjugation operation in a group. Racks appeared in the context of knot theory as complete invariants. We will show how to extend the notion of racks for knots which satisfy a certain differential relation. These...

Speaker: Dr. Harendra Singh, IIT(BHU)

A weak asymptotic solution developed by Panov and Shelkovich, is constructed for piecewise known solutions to a prolonged system of conservation laws by introducing δ, δ' , δ'' and δ''' waves along a discontinuity curve, which in turn implies the existence of weak asymptotic solutions for the...
